WHAT IS THE VIA DEL VOLTO SANTO in MTB: the VVS in MTB, is a cycle route in stages, suitable for MTB and E-MTB, which connects the town of Pontremoli with the city of Lucca and follows the best known religious pedestrian itinerary by-passing it in non-cycle sections.

DEPARTURE / ARRIVAL: the departure is from the historic center of the town of Pontremoli.

Arrival is in Lucca, at the Cathedral of San Martino, where the legendary and still mysterious wooden sculpture of the Holy Face is located inside.

The TRAIL: the VVS in MTB, also called Via Francigena of the Mountans, in its approximately 200 km in length, first crosses Lunigiana and then Garfagnana with an itinerary full of parish churches, castles, landscapes and medieval villages. A beautiful piece of Tuscany that will surprise anyone who travels to visit these places.

DIFFICULTY: the VVS in MTB, measures about 200 km x 3000 D +, and develops mainly on dirt roads with a good surface but there will be parts with rougher surfaces, stretches of asphalt and stretches of path. In order to remain as faithful as possible to the pedestrian itinerary, some sections that are not easy to pedal but of reduced length have been left.

On the itinerary you will find some sporadic signposts, often non-existent for several sections, therefore it is recommended to download the gpx track.
WHERE TO SLEEP: on the gpx track, we have indicated some accommodation facilities, evaluated on a suitable distance to organize the stages, however, there are many other structures easily available via the internet.

WATER / FOOD: you will find several fountains along the way and you will surely find one in every town you pass through. In case you are in trouble, ask some local who will be happy to suggest one. In the most important town centers you will find food shops and refreshments.

ORGANIZATION OF RETURN BY TRAIN: the railway station is located a few hundred meters from the Cathedral of San Martino in Lucca. Several trains, equipped with bike transport service, connect Lucca with Pontremoli. Usually it is necessary to change trains in Aulla or in Viareggio. For more info see: www.trenitalia.com
